Come Celebrate with us!
Mashramani
“Embracing our Diversity : Celebrating of Heritage”

 The Event

On the 23rd February, Guyana is celebrating ‘Mashramani’ a carnival like festival signifying ‘celebration after hard work’. Mashramani involves music emanating from towering stacks of boom boxes, hundreds of revelers, colorful floats, steel pan music, steel band performances, calypso, chutney and soca  song competition, non-stop partying, picnicking with family and friends, mouth watering cuisines and our refreshing Banks Beer and El Dorado rum.

The Celebration

On the 23rd February, 1970, Guyana became a republic. ‘Mashramani’ is the festival where Guyanese of all class and color come together to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guyana.
Before gaining its republican status, Guyana was awarded independence in 1966 from Great Britain. Since independence, an independence carnival was held in Mc Kenzie, Linden by the Jaycees group, but after becoming a republic this carnival was renamed  ‘Mashramani’ an Amerindian word that was used by the Arawaks whenever they gather to celebrate a special event.
This year Guyana will be celebrating its 40th Republic anniversary under the theme: “Embracing our Diversity: Celebrating our Heritage”.
