Guyana’s First Ever Christmas Village 2012 December 21 -24, Main Street, Georgetown

The inaugural Christmas Village is set to illuminate the downtown Main Street area with magnificent displays and holiday lights from the December 21st through Christmas Eve Day.

Spectators will find themselves in a dazzling wonderland set aglow in a unique setting of holiday scenes meshed with festive foods and a wide array of local entertainment.

According to the organizers, this Ministry of Tourism activity, which stems from the traditional ‘Main Big Lime’ will be the family event of the year beginning from 2pm to 10pm  from the 21st December  up until Christmas Even night.

Following the grand launch on Friday December 21st at 5:30pm in the vicinity of Main and New Market Streets, the Main Street Avenue will be transformed and all Guyana is invited to gather with their family and friends to make visiting the Christmas Village part of their Holiday tradition.

Complementing this, live entertainment is to be featured nightly, with renditions of jazz, steel pan and caroling to rouse the holiday spirit of unity and togetherness in all who visit the Village, as they usher in the celebration of all the magic Christmas brings.

In keeping with sprit of giving during this time, the event will be used a platform for several charitable organizations to raise funds and the proceeds from the sale of Christmas goodies will go towards their charities of choice.

In addition, the sponsors of the event, including Courts, Banks DIH, DDL, GT&T, Digicel will be launching several promotions and give – aways to encourage more persons to come to the village

Visitors gathering to commemorate and share the Christmas Village spirit can rest assured of safe and secure paid parking at parking facility nearby.

“All are invited to come out and enjoy this feature of our Christmas Holiday. There will be tons of fun activities and as this is the time of giving back, there will be lots of promotions. You can come to the village anytime, admission is free and the experience is priceless,” explained the Event Manager, Ms.  Catherine Martin.

The Ministry is also advising that no un-authorized vending will be allowed in the vicinity of the Christmas Village during this period as this will affect the smooth flow of traffic in the area.

In many countries a Christmas Village is a mammoth and extraordinary seasonal attraction which pulls thousands of tourists and citizens to view the Christmas lights and cottages, the event draws visitors from great distances as well as local families who have made visiting a Christmas Village part of their Christmas tradition.
