The Sophia Exhibition Site is alive with activity as preparations for the highly anticipated GuyExpo 2012 are moving apace.
As Guyana’s premier trade fair and investment show looms closer, construction work is underway to ensure that the exhibitors and participant’s expectations are met, in keeping with high standards synonymous with the event.
According to the Director of Tourism and the GuyExpo Public Relations Manager, Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh, the improvements underway are designed to cater to the needs of all who come to the event, with new additions ranging from a Service Pavilion, International Pavilion, Fashion Village and Kids Zone.
Alluding to one of the additional highlights of the upcoming show, he announced that the Tourism Village will be designed to attract and entice visitors with a myriad of activities, showpieces and exciting giveaways from the many exhibitors.
“We Have Giftland coming to showcase their new Mall and their Theatre along with the employment opportunities that will come out of that venture. There will also be a presence from Princess Hotel, Universal Travel, Evergreen Tours, Roraima Tours, Guy Braz and THAG among others. We will be offering entertainment every night that is sure to captivate,” he announced.
The Tourism Village will be located between the GTA Building and the Guyana National Bureau of Standards.
In expounding on other new features, Haralsingh pointed to the electrifying new exhibit- ‘Future City’ which will be displayed at the roundabout and will encapsulate all the transformative projects underway to propel Guyana into the future.
He said, “Here we will showcase and project what our country will look like in years to come when all of the transformative projects underway and those yet to come have taken root.”
To compliment this, there will also be a ‘Youth Village’ which will feature all of the possibilities that exists for youth development and entrepreneurship, in preparation of a new dynamic future.
Spectators can also look forward to wholesome entertainment, thorough steel pan music, fashion displays, talent showcases, kids entertainment comedy and a delectable spread of Creole and international cuisine at the food courts.
The PR Manager announced that 85 % of the booths at the Exhibition site are already booked, which he said is evident of the tremendous interest the event is generating.
He said, “He explained, “This year, a big focus is being placed on attracting overseas buyers, we are not encouraging our business to only be transactional. For that reason we have a team working along with the large GuyExpo Committee, working inside and outside of Guyana. We can confirm participation from the US, Canada, Barbados, Trinidad, China, Brazil, Suriname, St. Lucia. St. Vincent, India, a nd a few others. There are not only here as exhibitors but as buyers because we want to create the linkages here. That is why it’s a trade expo.”
As part of the strategy to ensure the successful staging of the activity, Haralsingh emphasized that the issue of adequate parking has also been addressed, and that the front parameter fence has been shifted 20 ft to accommodate at least 1000 vehicles.
“We are anticipating over 100,000 persons over the four days of this event and we want to ensure that we are prepared to make this an event that they are sure to remembers and enjoy . Even in the booths themselves we will deploy Pavilion Managers to manage the flow of pedestrians to avoid congestion. We have listened to our exhibitors and our consumers and we are catering to their needs,” he declared.
This year’s exhibition will see many changes including an earlier starting time, as committee members have announced that following the official opening ceremony at 18:00 hours on Thursday September 27th, the gates will be opened to the public from 15:00 hrs- 23:00hrs on Friday, and 13:00hrs- 23:00 hrs on Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to this, there will be a “Buyer’s time” set aside for investors and business men, which allows for a specific period during which time they will interact with exhibitors, prior to the official opening time; it was recommended that this interaction should be at least 2 hours before the gates are opened to facilitate the buyer’s interest.
GuyExpo 2012 will also be used as a platform for the promotion of the ‘Jagdeo Initiative’, which is a strategy for removing constraints to the development of agriculture in the Caribbean; it also builds upon past regional efforts to develop a Common Agricultural Policy.
The Pr Manager encouraged all of Guyana and the wider world to attend the trade fair and exhibition and assured that they are sure to be intrigued, captivated and blown away by GuyExpo 2012- ‘Strengthening the Traditional Embracing the New’.
GuyExpo 2012 was officially launched on March 30th under the theme ‘Strengthening the Traditional, Embracing the New”, and will be staged from September 27th – 30th at the Sophia Exhibition Site .
